Mark Zuckerberg has explained metaverse as a “virtual environment” you can go inside of, instead of just looking at on a screen. People can meet, work and play, using augmented reality glasses, virtual reality headsets, smartphone apps or any other devices.

Mark said that he expects the metaverse to reach a billion people within the next decade. He hopes this new technology will create millions of jobs for the creators.

What’s Metaverse:

Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson

The idea was first coined by the 1992 novel Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. A persistent virtual reality world navigated by the book’s protagonist. Other sci-fi books, movies, and TV shows like The Matrix, Ready Player One, and Stranger Things also explored the concepts of “mirrorworlds” where everything in the real world had a digital counterpart.

A reality on Digital that combines aspects of social media, online gaming, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and cryptocurrencies to allow users to interact virtually. Metaverse is a speculative future iteration of the Internet part of shared virtual reality, often as a form of social media. The metaverse is too far from existence, as of today.

In the metaverse, it is like your parallel universe. You can go to school, go to work, play games, watch concerts, browse store shelves, and much more without really going there. If the internet is two-dimensional—text and images on flat screens—think of the metaverse as three-dimensional and multi-sensory including touch.
